Mountain Ash
The Mountain Ash is part of the rose family and can grow up to 10 meters high. Tiny fragrant white flowers bloom in late June and then produce large clumps of bright red berries. In winter, moose, deer, hares and beaver may enjoy browsing on their twigs and inner bark.
Mountain Maple
Early in June, tiny greyish-yellow flowers appear in dense clusters on the ends of this shrub’s branches. Mountain Maple provides browse for beaver, moose, snowshoe hares, red squirrels and other small mammals. The two-lobed “helicopter” seeds provide food for ruffed grouse and song birds.
