Blue Bead Lily
The dark blue berries are poisonous! Do not eat them! The leaves, when small, can be used in salad and are said to taste like cucumber. The lily is commonly confused with the three-leaved false solomon’s seal (smilacina trifolia).
Bunchberry
The roots of bunchberry plants were used by the Ojibway and Iroquois to make tea for treating colic in infants, as well as coughs and fevers. Each underground stem has a dormant bud that shoots up if the main stem is killed. You might see them in moist, cool areas in amongst trees.
