Eastern White Cedar
As the trail descends towards the cooler, moist shore of Cedar Bay, the first eastern white cedars make an appearance. Cedar is also know as, “Arborvitae” or “Tree of Live.” First Nation people used Cedar leaves to make a tea to treat scurvy which was brought over by European explorers.
Wild Sarsaparilla
Sarsaparilla was the original root beer. Also, in the Smurf’s cook book, sarsaparilla leaves were the preferred food. Sarsaparilla berries have been used to make wine and its rhizomes (underground stems) for medicines to treat nosebleeds, wounds and sores.
